Popular Body Areas for Liposuction
While each patient is different in body type and goals, the most common body areas where liposuction is performed is listed below.
- Upper arms
Some of the popular liposuction body areas our Beverly Hills patients request are fat removal from the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck.
Dr. Steinbrech knows that all patients are different, both in their body shapes and in what they wish to achieve with liposuction. Dr. Steinbrech takes as much time as necessary during every pre-operative consultation to learn what each patient wants liposuction to do for them, and to decide which technique is best.
Before patients are permitted to undergo liposuction, their candidacy must first be determined by a qualified plastic surgeon. The best candidate is someone who is in excellent health, is within 25 pounds of his or her ideal body weight, and has deposits of fat that have not responded to diet or exercise. over the age of 18 who meet the necessary health qualifications may be great candidates for liposuction.
Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, and it cannot eliminate stretch marks and cellulite from the skin. The treatment can only remove small, localized concentrations of fat. In most cases, ten pounds of fat or less will be removed from the treated area. The ideal liposuction candidate is already close to or at a healthy weight but is interested in subtle body contouring.
The liposuction procedure begins with the injection of a solution composed of saline (salt water), a local anesthetic, and a small amount of adrenaline to decrease bruising and bleeding. This is known as either the tumescent or super-wet technique, depending on the ratio of the fluid to the fatty tissue being removed.
Once this solution has been introduced into the area planned for liposuction treatment, the doctor proceeds with one of two different methods of liposuction currently approved by plastic surgeons: suction-assisted lipectomy (SAL) or ultrasonic-assisted lipectomy (UAL).
In both methods, a tiny incision is made in a discreet place. In SAL, a cannula (small tube) is inserted and moved back and forth beneath the skin, breaking up the fat layer and suctioning it out. In UAL, ultrasonic energy is used to liquefy the fat before it is suctioned out with a cannula.
Depending on the amount of fat being removed, the liposuction surgery for men may last from 1-5 hours in Dr. Steinbrech’s Beverly Hills clinic.
After liposuction, drainage tubes, compression garments and antibiotics may be needed to facilitate the healing process for recovery. Beverly Hills patients are encouraged to walk as soon as they are able, and many return to work within a few days. Strenuous activity should be avoided for about a month.
During your liposuction recovery, a compression garment or elastic bandages may cover treatment areas once your procedure is completed. These help to control swelling and compress the skin to your new body contours.
In addition, small temporary drains may be placed in existing incisions beneath the skin to remove any excess blood or fluid.
Results of Liposuction
Results of liposuction are visible immediately and improvement often continues as swelling subsides during the first three months for patients in LA after their surgery.
