Shoulder (deltoid or “delts”) implants are used to create an increase in muscle definition in the upper body. This is an excellent option for those having trouble increasing muscle mass to their shoulders. Dr. Douglas Steinbrech specializes in shoulder (deltoid) implants for male patients in Los Angeles. Implants are tailored to each individual to ensure a sleek, seamless look. Sometimes, even with vigorous exercise, people are not able to shape and tone their deltoids to their satisfaction. Deltoid implants help such people achieve the appearance of larger, more defined muscles in their arms. Deltoid implants can improve the proportion and appearance not only of the delts but of the entire body. Incision for the implants is located in the underarm to conceal scarring. This is the same incision that chest, bicep, and tricep implants can be placed at the same time. Patients will typically see a change immediately after surgery is complete.

Deltoid Implant Benefits

  • Deltoid implants can help patients:
  • Seeking a fuller, more muscular and defined appearance in their arms
  • Useful to patients who, despite exercise, are unable to achieve the look they desire
  • Restore balance and proportion to patients with underdeveloped arms
  • Increased sense of self-confidence after surgery, and many feel comfortable wearing more revealing, fashionable attire

Who Are The Best Candidates?

Deltoid implants can create muscular definition and increased mass and fullness in the upper arm area. This procedure is specifically useful for those men in Los Angeles who, even after extensive muscular conditioning, can’t achieve the delt size they desire. Deltoid Implants are also recommended for those unique instances when an injury has occurred and muscle mass augmentation is needed to achieve normal balance.

Procedure

During the deltoid implant procedure, an incision is made, hidden in the crease under the arm. A pocket is then created large enough to hold the deltoid implant. The deltoid implants are then inserted through the incision and precisely positioned within the soft tissue. This area, consisting of muscle and fat, will form scar tissue that will help keep the implant in place. The incision is closed with sutures, and a bandage is applied to reduce swelling and discomfort. The very small dressing is placed and the patient can typically see the change immediately after surgery. Recovery after deltoid implant surgery may take up to four weeks. Moving your arms may be difficult for the first week.

Recovery

Patients will be instructed not to raise their arms for two days following surgery. Dressings are then removed followed by a gentle exercise program within 1-2 weeks to enable a full and comfortable range of motion of the arms. Generally within a week or two, physical use of the upper body muscles may be resumed and within one month, full muscular activity may be recommenced.

Surgical risks may include: infection, bleeding, asymmetry, scarring, and muscle and/or nerve damage.
