Upper and Lower Eyelift Surgery

Blepharoplasty is the procedural name of what most refer to as upper and lower eyelift surgery. The procedure enhances the look of the upper and/or lower eyelids for a younger and smoother appearance. Dr. Douglas Steinbrech is a skilled surgeon specializing in male plastic surgery in LA offering upper and lower eyelift surgery to patients experiencing the effects of aging. When men age, puffiness or low-hanging skin surrounding the eyes often appears. Sometimes, this will even become an obstacle in one’s vision.

By receiving an eye lift, you can age in reverse and take years of wear and tear off of your face. The procedure provides you with a rested look that is smooth around the edges. Cosmetic procedures are nothing to be ashamed of and amongst men, blepharoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgeries.

Perfect for Patients Who are Experiencing:

  • Fatty deposits in the eyelid, causing puffiness
  • Folded eyelids due to loose skin
  • Fine wrinkles around the eyes
  • Under-eye bags
  • Droopy or low-hanging eyelids

Eyelift surgery can address any of these issues and take years off your age.

Is an Eyelift Right for You?

Most men in good health (with realistic cosmetic goals) are excellent candidates for an eye lift.

Excess skin and fat in the upper eyelid cause the skin to sag and look heavy. This adds age to your face and inflammation. Not to mention it can impair your vision in the process. Upper blepharoplasty will remove excess skin surrounding the upper eye—improving your vision and look simultaneously.

Lower blepharoplasty improves the shape and skin surrounding the lower eyelid. This can include tightening the eyelid to correct sagging as well as adding fat to achieve what’s known as a “hollowed” appearance.

Double eyelid surgery is done to create a crease in the upper eyelid. This is sometimes referred to as “Asian blepharoplasty” or “Westernization of the eye.”

How Does Eye Lift Surgery Work?

During a consultation, a surgeon determines the precise locations of each incision. The cuts are small and performed in and around the eyelid pleats.

Blepharoplasty will remove excess skin and fat as needed, as well as adding fat to empty portions of the eyelid if necessary. “Eyelid lift” as a term is actually a misconception—there is no lifting of the eyelid done during the procedure.

In the case of an upper blepharoplasty, a small incision is made for the removal of skin and fat. A thin stitch is then applied to manipulate the skin into forming an eyelid crease.

Lower blepharoplasty is sometimes more convoluted. Incisions can be made directly below the lash line or sometimes on the inside of the eyelid. The latter is referred to as the transconjunctival approach. This method allows for removal of the fat without making any visible, external incisions. When combined with laser resurfacing, lines and wrinkles in the eyelids can be alleviated.

Eyelift Recovery Time

The time required for recovery after an eyelift surgery for men can be affected by a number of factors, such as the type and scope of the procedure, the general health of the patient, and their adherence to the postoperative instructions provided by the surgeon.

Typically, it takes around 1 to 2 weeks to recover from eyelift surgery. During this period, patients may encounter symptoms such as swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort in the vicinity of the eyes. It is important for patients to adhere to the surgeon’s aftercare instructions, which may include keeping the head elevated, using cold compresses to reduce swelling, and avoiding activities that may cause increased blood flow to the eyes.

Most patients are usually able to return to their normal routine, including work, within 7 to 10 days after the surgery, although they may still experience some minor swelling and bruising. While the healing process continues, it can take several months for the final outcomes of the surgery to be completely evident.
